Hiking

Please remember these hikes are in a desert!  The best seasons to hike are Fall, Winter, and Spring – and it’s a great idea to partake in evening hikes as days are very hot.

Andreas Canyon Trail at Indian Canyons

While the Indian Canyons contains over 60 miles of hiking trails, the Andreas Canyon Trail is a quick 2-mile hike with scenic views.  The trail follows Palm Springs’ historic Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians tribal grounds and an adjoining stream which results in an abundance of plant life amongst the rocky canyon.

Barker Dam

This 1.3 mile trail located in Joshua Tree National Park is suitable for hikers of all abilities.  The trail loop follows along the shore of a small blue lake and is a sight to see amongst the desert landscape.  The dam was built over a century ago to save up the desert’s most vital resource, water. During the hike, you are expected to see some wildlife and even Native America petroglyphs.  We recommend this trail especially after a big rain when the dam will be at its fullest.

  • Round Valley

After ascending the Aerial Tramway, explore the 5-mile round trip trail of Round Valley.  Stop by the Mt. San Jacinto Wilderness ranger station to pick up your free wilderness permit and follow a gradual climb through meadows.  During the Summer seasons you will encounter lush plants, vibrant flowers, and even spot some wildlife.
